WAYNESBORO - Michael Edward Mullet, 17, of 1849 N. Talbott Pl., died at 8:40 a.m. yesterday at Arlington House Hospital in Charlottesville.
According to the Charlottesville Police Department, the death was attributed to suicide by hanging.
He was a member of Waynesboro Bible Chapel, a senior at Waynesboro High School, a member the high school band, a former member of the YMCA Marlins swimming team and champion of the 1969 Soap Box Derby in Waynesboro.
Survivors include his parents, Edward and Irene Welch Mullet; three sisters, the Misses Michele Mullet, Kim Mullet and Karen Mullet, all at home; the paternal grandmother, Mrs. Emma Mullet of Canton, Ohio; and the maternal grandmother, Mrs. Cora Welch, also of Canton, Ohio.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday in Waynesboro Bible Chapel, 591 N. Winchester Ave., conducted by Mr. Kermit Horning, Mr. Ronald Horning and Mr. Robert Mansfield. Interment will be in Augusta Memorial Park.
Active pallbearers will be Billy Maki, Leonard Robinette, Barry Horning, David Anderson, Michael Wagner, David W. Balser, and Lindsay Moore.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 tonight at the McDow Funeral Home.
The body will be placed in the church at 10 a.m. Friday.
